REGISTER TO BE A POLL WORKER

Be a poll worker if you are available on Election Day. Come and work with us!

The Board of Elections has always been and continues to be committed to providing the most fair and efficient elections possible to the voters living in Wayne County. We need to share the responsibility of our commitment with approximately 400 poll workers. This is the reason why we need you to help maintain this tradition.

Eligibility

• You must be a registered voter in Wayne County.
• You must be “people oriented” and enjoy serving the public.
• You must be willing to attend a training session.

If you would like to sign up to become a Poll Worker, just fill out the online Poll Worker Application Form.

You are also welcome to visit our office during normal business hours to fill out a form in person. You will be paid for your time at a training session and your work on Election Day.

Duties

Precinct election officials carry out federal and state law as interpreted by the Secretary of State and as refined through policies of the board of elections. As a result, there are specific rules and procedures that must be followed to ensure that elections are fair and that every voter is given his or her constitutionality-protected opportunity to voice his or her opinions by voting on Election Day. These duties include receiving ballots and supplies, opening and closing the polls, overseeing the casting of the ballots during the time the polls are open, and any other duties required by law (R.C. 3501.22).

At each voting precinct there will be at least four precinct election officials. Each precinct in Ohio must have no more than half of its precinct election officials from the same political party.
